US Sens Hoeven (ND) Conrad (ND), McCaskill (MO), Blunt (MO) and others Sponsored a Coal Ash Bill Introduced in the US Senate 8/2/2012, right before leaving on break.

S 3512 is only a minor improvement from the bad House McKinely bill we fought so hard to stop last year. Of note is the striking regulatory holes, slow action to implement and disabling of EPA as the regulatory driver.  Coal ash ponds are also not phased out, unlined ponds can continue to operate IF no documentation of groundwater contamination and new landfills/ponds can be sited IN THE WATER TABLE.

What can YOU do? Look for Action Alerts from LEO, Earthjustice and EIP as Senators return to D.C. (from recess) in September. We will also try to get a meeting w/ Claire McCaskill while she is here in St. Louis. If you are interested in attending, email prsmail@gmail.com
