SEND LETTERS and POSTCARDS TO COUNTY COMMISSION MAY-JUNE 2011…BEFORE THEY MAKE THEIR DECISION!
1) Please take a moment to send a personalized letter to YOUR County Commissioner.
1st District: Terry O. Wilson (eastern half of county; Labadie, Pacific, Washington, etc.)
2nd District: Ann G. L. Schroeder (western half of county; Union, Sullivan, St. Clair, etc.)
Presiding Commissioner: John Griesheimer (entire County)
SEND ALL CORRESPONDANCES TO:
Franklin County Government Center
400 E. Locust Union MO 63084
and indicate your commissioner at the top of the email
2) ALSO send the Commission our TAKE NOTICE POSTCARDS. They are likely going to make their decision no later than mid to late June. We want them to know there are a lot of us, we are from all over the region and we want them to protect the current zoning standards that DO NOT ALLOW CCW LANDFILLS…AND CERTAINLY NOT IN FLOODPLAINS WHERE THEY ENDANGER OUR WATER RESOURCES.
The postcards are available on our Home Page as a download from a tab in the right hand column or simply click these links: print FRONT page and then reload your paper and print the BACK page. Fill out, cut out and mail. If you print on paper, just put it in an envelope and mail. Each download is for 4 postcards…so find 3 other friends or family members to send a card.
Just like w/ the Sens/Reps they need to hear from many of us, in our own words…why they should not go ahead w/ a zoning code change.
ATTEND COUNTY HEARINGS and MEETINGS:
County Commission meets Tues mornings in working sessions at 9:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m that are open to the public. Please attend if possible.
County will announce any discussions of pending code changes on landfills so public can attend. See ACTION ALERT EMAILS and posts on our website, www.emissourian.com website and www.klpw.com website. Anticipate a public meeting the first week of June 2011.
Continue to lobby for a STRONG EPA Subtitle C Coal Ash Rule:
Please take a moment to call your Congressional Representative (Leutkemeyer, District 9 for Franklin Co, Columbia MO, etc. 202-225-2956) as IDed at www.contactingthecongress.org and let them know to vote NO on the McKinley bill H.R. 1391 and ask that they be leaders in protecting communities back home. If these measure pass on to the Senate, we will need you to call our Senators: McCaskill and Blunt.
We have been told that calls, personalized emails and written letters are most effective. Take the time to do all 3 and commit to calling about every 2-3 weeks to see what they are doing to protect us.
